Lawmakers have been ignoring the overwhelming majority of people who oppose these bills. These bills have loopholes that will allow people to get away with killing bears simply by saying they “reasonably believed their life was in danger.” This bill removes FWC’s authority to investigate. There is no burden of proof that an individual has to provide to substantiate the claim that they believed their life, or a loved one (pets included), was truly in danger. This bill also includes property. Additionally, we already have a right to self-defense against any person or animal that is a genuine threat.
