KoreanDogs.org and numerous Korean animal welfare organizations have long campaigned against the barbaric practice of leaving tethered dogs to burn alive during wildfires. In the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that swept through South Korea in March 2025, we intensified our efforts to address this urgent and deeply inhumane issue.

In May 2025, South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) released the Guidelines (Manual) for the Rescue and Protection of Companion Animals During Natural Disasters, distributing it to local governments and relevant agencies for reference and implementation. This marks a hard-won, albeit partial, victory for all of us who have tirelessly fought to protect companion animals from the horrors of wildfires.
