To Bradford Council: please reconsider your classification of A Northern Soul as a 15
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
A Northern Soul is a fantastic film about modern day Britain, in all its beauty and ugliness. It is a story of poverty, debt, growth, hip-hop and resilience. Earlier in 2018, the British Board of Film Classification classified the film as a 15 because of a few F-words, which has now been overturned by various cities across the UK, including Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool. Given Bradford's illustrious past in Britain's arts, politics and activism scenes, I was shocked to discover that Bradford had sided with the BBFC. I say sided with, not because this is about taking sides, of course it isn't, but because in times such as these, we mustn't, for anything, shy away from discussing some of the biggest challenges that we face.
I am starting this petition to put pressure on Bradford Council to change the classification of the film to a 12A as other councils have, in order to widen the discussion about these issues, and more importantly, to widen the enjoyment of what is a beautiful film. Furthermore, I would implore that all people with an interest in social justice and cracking film to sign this petition.
