I’ve read your comments. Thank you for involving yourself in this campaign. I really appreciate all of your support. People have donated towards promoting this petition, signed and shared it on social media, and also have tweeted about it. Many of you are asking what you can do at this point. We all are promoting our cause by getting our numbers up on this petition. This will give us our voice. Congressman Brad Sherman has not responded. I have had conversations with his staff. They are aware of our campaign. I chose Congressman Brad Sherman because of his record with Animal Rights. He is currently very busy with issues concerning our government. I know we are going to have to be persistent. I’ve read a lot of comments regarding living on a plant-based diet. I do not eat meat. I do promote living on a plant-based diet on my social media. Yes, if everyone stopped eating meat that would solve this problem. I hope for that day to come in the very near future. However, I do not want people who eat meat to feel as though they can’t support this campaign. This campaign specifically is about changing the existing laws to dramatically improve the lives of the pigs that are victims of factory farming. Personally, when I was giving water to the pigs outside of the slaughterhouse, I wanted to take them all home away from that horrible situation. Looking into their eyes, you can see that they are starving for some compassion and protection. It tears at my soul that I couldn’t provide anything more than some water and positive energy for minutes of their lives. They reminded me of the dogs in a shelter, except their situation is far worse. It’s time for the law to recognize them as living beings not products while they are alive. There is a law called the Twenty Eight Hour Law. This law states the pigs can be transported up to 28 hours without food or water. This law also states that 28 hours can be extended to 36 hours if the owner grants consent. Also, the time can exceed 28 hours if there are accidental causes that could not be anticipated or avoided. I don’t see this law as offering any protection for the pigs in trucks traveling in triple digit temperatures. The Animal Welfare Act does not protect farm animals. I can’t find any laws that would make it unlawful to physically abuse the pigs. There are laws regarding the actual slaughter. There is a lot of evidence showing that the humane slaughter is not humane. Having heard the screams of the pigs, it didn’t sound as though it was anything less than horrifying. We can change things. I agree with the comments stating our country should be better than this and lead by example.
