We are just under 15,000 signatures. I am waiting for the numbers to get higher and I will reach out to the Congressman and his office. I became involved as an animal rights advocate through protesting the Asian dog and cat meat trade. The images that I viewed while campaigning against this practice are what made me stop eating meat. There has been significant progress made in ending the dog meat trade. It’s my hope that we can look at our own backyard and see the parallels between the abuse the pigs are subjected to here, and the abuse the dogs are subjected to in both China and South Korea. Pigs have proven to be loyal companions to humans. They just have been branded as food, which has allowed factory farming to treat and dispose of them as products, rather than living intelligent animals. Whether you view them as food or as friends, they deserve a good quality of life while alive. It’s time for our system to get out of the dark ages and treat pigs with the same respect as we do our protected animals. I can’t thank all of you enough. Your contributions to this campaign are driving it. I will keep pushing this petition and keep all of you updated along the way.
