I just wanted to reach out to let you know we’ve just passed 7,431 signatures on our petition! Thank you for signing and sharing amongst your networks.
There’s been no further announcement regarding the reopening of BreastScreen. Every day that passes means there are more women who are not able to access a free mammogram, which will result in a delayed breast cancer diagnosis
Of course, you can attend a mammogram/ultrasound appointment privately (as I did last week), and while there may be some reimbursement through Medicare, there is still an up front cost which might make it prohibitive. And you’re unlikely to attend if you don’t have any signs, symptoms or concerns. Plus, if you’re in a regional area you may not be able to access a specialist clinic easily. The result is the same - more women diagnosed with breast cancer later than if they could attend a free BreastScreen appointment this week.
