EVERY public and school holiday season here in Australia 100's of extra motor vehicles head out on to the highways.  They stop at the Roadhouses and servo's for their food and toilet facilities and to have a stretch - Driver Reviver. 

The problem faced during this time is the dispersement of parking spaces.  There ARE designated truck parking bays in all road houses/service centres, some spaces are shared in peak times with vehicles with trailers.  What is currently happening is these bays are being filled with cars. 

There has long been a liveable issue between trucks and grey nomads, they pretty much co-exist with minimal angst.  BUT come holiday time no thought is given by car drivers. 

Designated Truck Parking Bays are the only place a truck can park legally within the confines of these centres when cars are inconsiderately parked in these allocated bays what is a truckie to do?  He is mandated by law via the log book to have a break whether a 15 min / half hour break or the major break of 7 hours.

This fact is not recognised by car drivers, and the truckie is maligned as a rude arrogant big meanie. 

Does someone have to die first or has someone died pushing on in their truck because of this issue?  let's not wait to find out.

How do we change it?  Can it be made illegal to disobey the signs within private property?  Can Austroads and NTC actually get their acts together and produce the necessary roadside parking bays as outlined in their 2019 and 2005 guideline reports?  Can the NHVR enforce it?  Can the roadhouses have traffic controllers at particular times of the day to enforce it?

By signing this petition it is showing the powers that be there is an endemic problem during peak holiday times. Attention needs to be paid now, no more money wasted on reports.  As an industry and families of the industry we have a voice.
