A press conference, organized by SaveKoreanDogs.org, urging the South Korean government to pass an amendment to the Animal Protection Law, was held on January 25, 2017 at the National Assembly in Seoul. The proposed amendment to the Animal Protection Law was authored by National Assemblyman Changwon Pyo and co-sponsored by sixty-four of the National Assembly members, including Minjoo Party Chairman Choo Mi-Ae, Justice Party Chairman Sim Sang-Jeong, and People’s Party Interim Chief Park Ji-Won. However, the amendment failed to make it to the floor for debate by the Assembly due to a lack of support as well as pressure from the dog meat industry. Therefore, a press conference was held to inform the public of the stalled legislation and to encourage the the National Assembly to take action on this amendment.
