Boknal, or dog days of summer, in Korea when the dog meat consumption is ritualized, is fast approaching. This year, July 17 (Chobok), July 27 (Joongbok) and August 16 (Malbok) are three ‘Boknal’ days. Hundreds of thousands of dogs will be killed brutally during this period because of the irrational belief that eating dogs will increase stamina and keep them cool during the hot days of summer. Let’s keep going with our sister city campaign - focusing on Korean cities with high dog meat consumption - by urging their sister cities to speak up.
