Big Oil and Gas has been paying people for weeks to harass petitioners for Initiative 97, which will mandate 2500 foot setbacks from people and waterways. Now they seem to be conspiring with shady paid petitioner outfits to actually steal 15 or 20,000 of the signatures that Colorado Rising paid for: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/26/us/colorado-anti-fracking-signatures.html These new reasons for online petitioning are in addition to forgery of petitions, harassment to get signatures, misrepresentation of the purpose of petitions and other problems with paid petitioners. This week East Boulder County United, which is fighting fracking, joins Plan Boulder County, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center and Our Revolution Boulder in officially endorsing online petitioning for ballot initiatives. I discovered that online petitioning is part of the platform for the Boulder County Democratic party, so we hope for their endorsement too. Again, Boulder City Council holds a public hearing about this and other ballot issues August 14th. Please watch your email and this event page for updates about the timing.
