Colorado Secretary of State Candidate Jena Griswold says that if elected she'll seek online petitioning for STATE ballot initiatives! It looks like she's the Democratic front-runner. Once our Secretary of State's registration site is (easily) adapted for petitions, 16 of the other 23 states with ballot initiatives also have online registration and will want it. We're up to 97 signers and we thank you for being among the first. But we should have thousands. Here's why: Ballot initiatives, that gave us the country's first Open Space tax, height limits, the country's first gay rights law, and public campaign financing, are what made Boulder great. But they get harder and harder as supermarkets shut out petitioners and Federal rules raised the number of signature required to get on the ballot. So, starting in 2016, all the problems of paid petitioners got to Boulder, including forged petitions. It takes only 25 signatures for a candidate to get on the ballot, but about 4,700 to get an initiative on the ballot. Shouldn't we be voting more about policies than personalities?
