We’re in the second week of the Covid Inquiry’s hearing on preparation for the pandemic, and the truth about how awfully our loved ones were failed is finally coming out.
On Friday, Katherine Hammond, head of the civil contingencies secretariat admitted that the Government hadn’t done any preparation for lockdowns. Instead, as David Cameron admitted yesterday morning, the Government had focused almost entirely on the risk of an influenza pandemic, failed to stockpile PPE, and ignored the recommendations made by its own modelling like ‘Exercise Alice”.
The Government buried their head in the sand when it came to the risks of a pandemic. If only they hadn’t, many of our loved ones might still be with us today.
Whilst these revelations were coming out of the inquiry, The Mirror obtained a video of Conservative party staff partying and dancing during a “jingle and mingle” party, at the height of lockdown.
The picture that we all suspected is becoming clear for everyone to see. This Conservative Government failed to take even the most basic measures to protect our loved ones, whilst breaking their own lockdown rules and treating the situation like it was all a laugh.
They thought they were going to get away it, but thank to your support they won’t.
We will never stop fighting for justice for our loved ones. Thanks to your help, we’ve already secured this inquiry and we are holding its feet to the fire every step of the way, so that it get’s to the truth about what happened to our loved ones.
Meanwhile, we’re working day in and day out to make sure our stories are in the national media, so everyone understand just how awful the consequences of the Government’s handling of the pandemic was.
In the last month alone, we’ve had over 500 pieces of media coverage. Thank you, it’s only thanks to your support that we’re able to achieve this, and make sure that our the stories of our loved ones are never forgotten, and lessons are learned from their deaths so that others never have to endure the same horrible fate.
We’re only at the start of our journey with this inquiry and we’re going to need our supporters like you to make sure that they are never let off the hook at any stage in the process.
