I feel hurt by the way the British government has treated us EU citizens since the Brexit referendum.

Instead of securing in law the rights of the UK's 3.6 million EU citizens immediately after the 2016 referendum, the government threw us on the negotiating table with the EU.

After 27 years in the UK, I have been left in limbo while the UK and EU negotiated the Withdrawal Agreement.

In 2019, I was even denied my vote in the European elections!!!

Just like the suffragettes before me, I believe that EU citizens know that unless they have the vote they will not have a voice.

That's why we are calling on the UK government to not only keep the current democratic rights of EU nationals to vote and stand as candidates in local elections  but also extend the franchise for general elections in the UK to include EU citizens.

I also believe it would be right to abolish the 15 year rule which currently bars UK citizens who are long term residents abroad from voting in elections in the UK.

If the point of leaving the EU was to create a more democratic Britain then it is right that all voices should be heard.

Extending the franchise to EU citizens would be a step in the right direction in terms of healing the damaging divisions which have characterised the post Brexit period.

Boris Johnson, give EU citizens a voice!
