Thanks for the support, this petition is to suggest an idea that hopefully will be picked up by main stream media and other political groups to put a layer of protection in to prevent police investigating themselves and using (or abusing) their powers to turn a blind eye. 

Although the police force itself did not kill Sarah, the failure to apply a strict response to and detention of a 'police officer' could have prevented this murder.

No organisation should investigate itself. The IOPC is not truly independent and in most cases, even the IOPC back police investigating themselves.  

At present, the default is for police to investigate themselves, UNLESS of extraordinary circumstances.  I think this should be reversed and the should NEVER investigate themselves.
