What can we learn from the outrageous denial of a vote in the 2019 European Parliament elections in the UK to over 1.7m citizens?
The most important lesson is that it must never happen again.
Tomorrow, at the Brussels Press Club, New Europeans, together with the ECIT Foundation ( citizens' rights think tank) and others will launch a European Citizens Initiative called Voters Without Borders.

Drawing on the experience of #DeniedMyVote in the UK, we will be calling for all 17m mobile citizens in the EU to be given full democratic rights to vote in national elections and referendums.

Such initiatives help us keep the plight of British citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK high on the political agenda in the UK and the EU.
It is a scandal that those most affected by referendums such as the Brexit one, did not have the vote or that a failure to prepare in a timely way for elections has excluded so many who did have the right to do so.
We continue to press for a full public inquiry into #DeniedMyVote and to raise the issue with UK MPs and with MEPs in Brussels.
Europe is more than the EU and democratic standards need to be improved everywhere starting in the UK from the experience of #DeniedMyVote.
By making common cause with #VotersWithoutBorders and other such campaigns, we remind decision-makers that for citizens, Brexit is not done and that the fight for those denied their voting rights goes on.
