UK Court Reform & Survivor Family Justice

Hi there,

The Family Justice system is in chaos responding to COVID-19 and the results of the Judicial Review into the treatment of survivor families in Domestic Abuse cases. Reforms are on the way, but nothing happens overnight, in fact this process is likely to take years. In some cases, we have reports that the injustice is getting worse, not better. Without recourse, these cases have no access to justice. This cannot continue.

#thecourtsaid campaign is stepping things up a gear for the campaign for recourse. We MUST ensure that there is a full case review into the injustice admitted by the Ministry of Justice in the Family Court Review –the wrongs need to be righted! It would help enormously if you shared the petition everywhere you can - the link for the petition is here - https://www.change.org/Survivor-Family-Justice

From September 2020, after Parliamentary summer recess, our attention is firmly on the house of lords to ensure that the Domestic Abuse Bill passes with survivor families at the heart of it, and that a mechanism for recourse is immediately established. I will, of course keep you posted about any developments. You can write to MP’s and Lords via the #thecourtsaid campaign web page before September - I have a nifty tool on there which will take you to your MP's inbox after putting in your postcode. Give it a try and tell them what you think about recourse. The more people that do, the more chance of it happening! Click HERE to email your MP/House of Lords

In the meantime, before reform is achieved it is vital to protect yourself in this difficult system, particularly for survivor families. Reform is a long way off and for now it seems to be business as usual with injustice continuing. Survivors are reporting that they found the 5* rated Court Confidence course a crucial resource to help them through it towards a safer outcome. Click HERE to find out more.

The only way we will end this injustice is through recourse. Without it, this injustice will continue. I firmly believe that, together, we can make this a thing of the past.

Thank you for your continued support,

In solidarity,

Natalie Page
