Port Washington Parents for Better Nutrition for our Children
Jan 11, 2017
Hello Everyone! I'm thrilled that we have so many supporters in such short amount of time! Bravo! I've also enjoyed many of your stories in the comment section. I'm so proud to be a member of a community where there are so many of us that care deeply about such an important issue. Ultimately, I would like to take this issue to a BOE meeting but I wanted to have the community's support first so I could show them how deeply this issue matters to us. I'd like to encourage you also to give your children a voice in this matter by having them comment on why things must change in the cafeteria. In fact, they are our eyes and ears into the cafeteria. Which brings me to my next point, Sample day will be happening on January 25th in the Elementary Schools and on January 18th in the Middle School and the High School. This is the only opportunity that we have as parents to witness the conditions in the cafeterias. I encourage you all to contact your school's nutrition committee chairs to volunteer at sample day. Below is an article about the work Julia has done for the North Shore School District. Keep in mind that we can't do a lot of what they are doing here in Port because our district participates in the National School Lunch Program. It's still very inspiring though!
