I grew up in the wetlands in Louisiana, and it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. 

Helis Oil and Gas Co is about to start "exploratory drilling" in my hometown to reach the natural gas nearly a mile underground. Drilling straight through the pristine aquifer that provides drinking water to nearly 3/4 of a million people in the area. Drilling a few miles away from the animal sanctuary I am building, and from a local high school.

The hair on my neck stands up when I read on the Helis website that "there is no risk of contamination to the aquifer.” This is not just misrepresentation, it is a FLAT OUT LIE. 

There have been over 1,000 documented cases of water contamination next to areas of gas drilling as well as cases of sensory, respiratory, and neurological damage due to ingested contaminated water. (http://www.dangersoffracking.com)

Every new pipe they put in increases this risk even further. Even if the plans are perfect, and the execution is perfect (all highly unlikely based on track record) what happens if another Hurricane Katrina comes along any time in the next decade? POOF. Tens of millions of gallons of water in our aquifer become undrinkable.

It's too late to stop the first drill, but we CAN stop the 2nd, the 15th, and the 55th that they are planning to dig across 60,000 acres. Join me to fight Helis instead of putting future generations at risk for political gain today.
