Black Swan Lake, Bundall, Gold Coast is a 2.75 hectare freshwater Lake, home to 40 species of wild birds. It was excavated 30 years ago, has locally sheltering, valuable regrowth bushland at the western end.In 2014 Gold Coast City Council gave permission for it to be filled for a carpark. The community stopped trucks, which arrived with virtually no warning and were about to fill, in spite of the presence of nesting swans, There were no animal carers or spotter catchers present. With widespread community input the Lake was saved, before the Council elections, but afterwards just before Christmas 2016. the Council gave the Turf Club control of the Lake and the right to fill it. The Deputy Mayor is a Turf Club Board Member and several Councillors have honorary memberships of the Club.. The community, Wildlife Queensland, the RSPCA and other supporters have campaigned tirelessly on this issue but would be grateful for the wider support of the community to state that Park and Ride is the correct modern way for events in the Turf Precinct, not obliterating an established bird sanctuary '
