We urge you, citizens and taxpayers of St Joseph County, Indiana to share and sign this petition.  Show your support for the animals in our county, by requesting that our County Commissioners secure an alternative to contracting with the Humane Society of St Joseph County, Inc.

Our community loves its animals and would like nothing better than to ensure, that they are receiving the best and most effective care which our tax dollars can give them.  Supporting new alternatives, that will bring our county and it's animal care into the 21st century.  

Our current shelter, the Humane Society of St Joseph County, Inc. has fallen under public scrutiny.  The shelter continues to harbor a bad attitude with the public, that is in part funded by our county tax dollars.  They have also abused the powers entrusted to them in providing these services.  The trust of the citizens of St Joseph County has been broken, the Board of Directors and the management, have had ample time within which to address these issues and have failed to do so.  

The HSSJC refuses to release any statistical information, on the intake and disposition of the animals in their care and control.  The statistics that have been gathered from St Joseph County records, paints a very bleak picture of what is happening to our county animals once they arrive at the Humane Society of St Joseph County, Inc.  Many believe, that too many county animals are being euthanized and not enough going into rescue or foster groups.  As reported in this information, only 28 animals went into rescue in the last three reported years.  Our county animal shelter is the last hope these animals have of finding loving homes, every effort should be made to seek homes for these homeless animals.
