TERMINATE CURRENT CEO AND REINSTATE JOBS OF STAFF MEMBERS AT PLAYHOUSE SAN ANTONIO

The Issue

Dear Current Board Members of The Playhouse San Antonio,

This is a petition to reopen the search for a new CEO for The Playhouse, and to reinstate all jobs that were eliminated by George Green's employment in the aforementioned position. The Theatre community Mr. Green addressed as "complacent" is asking for a bold change today based on your decision to appoint him. We do not believe the methods to save our theater and attack monetary deficits include cutting the jobs of the beloved, passionate members of our community who have sacrificed so much. We, the theatre artists of San Antonio, have lost faith in the judgment and abilities of the board based on this most recent and earth shattering decision. When meeting with our community last night, Mr. Green said he was told on the way to San Antonio, after accepting the position, about the Playhouse deficit and yet when he spoke to Deborah Martin at the Express News weeks earlier he said the board had been up front about the deficit. In the same interview Board President, Omar Leos, said that Green had been told about the financial situation and " wasn't fazed by it." We are so very confused about what the real story is when it comes to Mr. Green. Why is Mr. Green changing his story now?

We also question Mr. Green's judgment as an artistic executive due to his beliefs that dismissing the mission of the Playhouse, education and outreach, will be the best course of action for a theater known for its longstanding reputation as an inspiration for young people to grow as individuals as well as artists. Below are the names of the individuals who should be reinstated into their positions immediately- Rebecca Simons, Andrea Medina, pat Smith, Ryan Deroos, Rick Clyde, Sarah McClain, Cameron Beesley, Eva Laporte, and Mo Olivo. Until this is done, we agree that we will no longer support, donate, audition, or do work with or for this organization.

Sincerely,

The San Antonio Theater Community
