BMRCL is Misleading the General Public

Chris HD
Bangalore, India

May 11, 2019 —

BMRCL has totally misquoted the facts and misused the media.

In fact there never was a request from the congregation for scrapping the station at Vellara junction. For the purpose of creating a station the church has given 38209 Square Feet of prime land on a permanent basis which is just 5000 Square Feet less than one acre.

Secondly as per original Detailed Project Report (DPR) the metro line was to run below the Hosur Road but was shifted to within the Church compound. this is in violation of the laid down norms. this apart the original requirement was 200 Square Meters only but they have demanded and taken 3500 Square Meters.

Thirdly, there was a request for scrapping the proposed Langford Town station which is just 877 Linear Meters away from Vellara junction Station does not serve any purpose to the public. BMRCL officials have just mentioned about the cemetry on the western side of Hosur Road but deliberately silent on the Military campus right from Johnson Market till Anepalya junction and if at all any commuters want to use the same they have to use the one way from Nanjappa circle to Elgin Floor Mills. Regarding the school children the BMRCL officials are talking about from Schools like Baldwin Boys High School, Cathedral High School, Good Shepherd School etc., and other places like Garuda Mall, Bangalore Football stadium, Sacred Heart Church etc., the closest station would be Vellara Junction and not Langford Town Station. Residents from Anepalya, adugodi, Koramangala etc., will prefer MICO Station and not Langford Town.

BMRCL has no locus standi to categorise any shrub as Tree or a plant but it is the prerogative of the Forest Department to certify so. Moreover the Tree issue is followed up by the Tree Committee and as per Supreme Court orders the committee has to permit clearance of trees. We had only requested for shifting the Vellara junction station by 75 to 100 Linear Meters towards south so that the trees, most of them older than 100 years could be saved and also avoiding acquiring of another 50000 Square Feet of Land inside the church by BMRCL which would result in the users unable to enter or exit the church, closure of a school where nearly 60 children of special needs belonging to all communities are studying and restricting the movement of 40 odd senior citizens who are staying at the Old age home within the church campus.

We are very much upset and pained the way BMRCL have depicted the picture wrongly in order to attract public attention. With vast depletion of greenery within Bangalore city any right thinking individual will try and save as many trees as possible. I request the BMRCL officials not to misquote any facts that will hurt the sentiments of any community for that matter that too who has volunteerly given a big chunk of land for the permanent use.
