Petition updateHelp Reed get a new adaptive bikeSome clarification

Thank you all so much for supporting Reed! We’ve gotten a lot of questions so I wanted to clarify some things. Our insurance plan will cover therapy but only if I take Reed to a therapy place. The only way that’s going to happen is for me to cut my hours at work so drastically that we won’t be able to afford to even pay for the visits let alone feed our family. Since October of last year bcbs was covering Reed’s current therapists coming to him and then suddenly changed their minds. Their reasoning is that Reed doesn’t need a therapist to come to him because he is able to leave the house. When our therapy company asked to see this policy, bcbs says it is internal and will not show them what it says. This policy is also not written in our member handbook and we were not notified of any changes to the terms of our policy. I work in home health and none of the kids I see are homebound. I’d expect that a pretty low percentage of kids receiving home health are truly home bound. No other insurance provider has a policy like this. It seems that bcbs is trying to increase their profits by putting parents in a position of deciding between keeping their jobs or taking their kid to therapy knowing that most people can’t quit their jobs and they won’t ever have to cover therapy for these children. I know many plans won’t cover therapy for kids at all and that is an injustice as well. But the reason I started this petition is because of the lack of transparency regarding this policy and it’s use to tie the hands of parents so that bcbs can claim they cover a service without ever actually having to do it.
