Block the data center in Hutchinson, Minnesota
La causa
Our love for Hutchinson, Minnesota is boundless. We cherish our clean waters we fish in, the gentle whisper of the winds through the trees, the northern lights when lucky, and the blissful tranquility of our quiet community. The prospect of a data center disrupts this serene setting and threatens all aspects of the life we hold dear. It is a detriment without a gain of creating a large amount of jobs for the community.
A data center, while often seen as an advancement, poses real dangers to Hutchinson. The residents of Hutchinson aren’t opposed to growth or technological advancements, we are opposed to harming our community. Primarily, such a project could severely impact our water resources. Data centers are notorious for their excessive water usage, required to cool the massive servers. At a time when water conservation is critical, can we truly afford this risk?
Furthermore, our electrical grid is already under pressure. In extreme weather we are told to conserve energy and already face higher bills. Introducing a power-hungry facility could result in increased strain, leading to possible shortages or hikes in our utility costs. These are changes that may significantly affect every resident. Who will pay when the infrastructure needs improved? Will it be us tax payers?
Beyond the tangible environmental threats, our property values are at stake. A data center could lead to increased noise and light pollution, compromising the quaint, pastoral appeal of Hutchinson. This change could detract from the charm that attracts visitors and potential residents alike, ultimately reducing real estate desirability and market value.
How do we place a price on the way of life we’ve built here? Our town thrives on the peace that encouraged us all to choose this community as our home.
We call upon city officials to consider these grave implications and prioritize the wellness of Hutchinson’s residents above industrial advancements. Most residents weren’t even aware the data center was a possibility here much less has the green light already. We believe in progress, but not at the expense of the environment, our resources, and our community's well-being. Nobody would want a data center in their own town.
Join us in taking a stand to protect Hutchinson and ensure a balanced approach to development that harmonizes innovation with nature. Please sign this petition to block the data center and preserve the precious qualities of our cherished hometown. I urge everybody to show up to the town meetings (second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 5:30!)
