Petition updateBlister Pack Recycling: It's a bitter pill to swallowHappy National Recycling Week!

Happy National Recycling week everyone!

Today was my day off and pictured is a month's worth of blister packs that we've collected in our household. I'm sure many families who have chronic conditions can empathise with the volume of blister packs that are being thrown away and can't have a second life.

Luckily my chemist (and sustainability trailblazer) Morag Horton has been collecting blister packs at her chemist in North Adelaide for a number of years, so I know they can be properly recycled. Unfortunately making sure these go to a recycling happy home is both a time consuming exercise and it's done at significant cost to her and her business (that I repay via patronage). It really shouldn't really be the model of a circular economy when we have a multi-billion dollar industry that underpins pharmaceutical medications.

Since our last update I've been in touch with Pharmacycle who were mentioned on War on Waste and shared with them our petition goals and aspirations. I'm glad to see what they are doing in expanding their collection points at pharmacies, and there has been some uptake from different companies in the sector. It's great to see there's innovators in Australia keen to make an impact on sustainability and the circular economy.

However, opt in and feed good marketing can only get us so far! More than 6000 of you have signed saying you want more government and industry action! In recent weeks we've caught some momentum with Craig Reucassel  from War on Waste retweeting our petition and there's been lots of great comments and support coming from all areas of the country.

Craig is also doing a crown funding activity to get some movement on ensuring some blister packs won't go into landfill - I'm sure they'll be some extra zany video footage coming out of this. If you want to support it click on this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/blister-packs

Please continue to share our petition so we can hit our target of 10,000. As we get close I'll be preparing to make contact with the target representatives to bring our petition to them in the new year.

A better world is possible if we work together

Thanks again for your support.
