Matt Canavan (NP Qld), Barnaby Joyce (NP NSW) and Andrew Hastie (Liberal WA) Shadow Minister for Home Affairs, are part of the growing team of politicians calling for Net Zero to be scrapped.
Here, Andrew Hastie very clearly sets out, why Net Zero is a disastrous policy that must be replaced by commonsense policies.
“The momentum continues against Net Zero.
Today, (22/8/25) the Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) voted to abandon Net Zero.
The LNP joins the following divisions in adopting this position:
👉 the Liberal Party of Australia (South Australian Division).
👉 the National Party of Australia N.S.W.
👉 the Country Liberal Party of the Northern Territory (CLP).
👉 the Liberal Party of Australia (Western Australian Division).
But it’s not just the Libs and Nats’ that are moving on energy and climate policy.
Mainstream Australians are rebelling against Labor’s Net Zero energy transition, too.
They see the moral hypocrisy at the heart of the Net Zero economy.
They see this hypocrisy:
That Labor are happy to export 25% of the world’s coal and 20% of the world’s liquified natural gas to the biggest and fastest growing carbon emitters in China and India.
Yet Labor deny, those same energy sources to the Australian people.
They give other countries cheap and efficient energy, yet they force us to pay more for foreign-made industrial scale solar and wind farms.
It’s a scam with huge consequences for our prosperity and well-being.
Family budgets are suffering. Pensioners are going cold this winter. Small businesses are struggling to stay alive. Aussie industry is shrinking.
Australia has gone from an energy abundance to an energy famine in two decades.
Why? Because we are chasing fantasy climate targets, and lining the pockets of an aggressive green energy lobby with our hard-earned money.
For those who remain committed to Net Zero, the question remains:
How will you get to Net Zero in 2050 without destroying our prosperity?
Nuclear is at least 15 to 20 years away, so we can’t use that crutch.
And the centre-left won’t let you use coal or gas.
So, how will you do it? How will you keep the lights on?
I’m yet to hear a convincing answer to this one.
My position remains unchanged: It’s time we looked after the Australian people first.
Let’s pick a fight with Labor on this one.

AS THE TRUTH CONTINUES TO BE REVEALED THAT THE TRANSITION TO UNRELIABLES IS A FARCE.
It becomes very apparent that our petition
TO STOP THE CLOSURE OF ALL THE AUSTRALIAN COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS AND TO KEEP THEM RUNNING IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE.
This includes Eraring NOW 2027, Yallourn NOW 2032), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045 and all other coal fired power stations.
And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest and to maintain the supply of base load electricity 24/7 that is essential to STOP the Grid from collapsing.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 27th July 7.45pm AEST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 45% Brown Coal 17%, Gas 3%, Hydro 8% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 27%. 7.45pm a time when solar has gone for its daily 16 hours (lack of fuel), zero production period. Unreliable wind is all over the place averaging only 27%, but ranging from a pathetic 8% in Qld, up to 90% in SA.
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 27/07/25 7.45 pm AEST. In NSW coal is producing 74% Solar 0%, Wind 24%, Qld coal 74%, solar 0% wind 8% Vic Brown coal 61%, solar 0%, wind 36%. SA batteries 6%, gas 4%, solar 90%, wind 40% and Tas hydro 97%, wind 3%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.
