As stated in the last update, I believe that Australia’s Energy Ministers, Federal and State, along with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) must have the one objective, which is to guarantee the supply of the lowest cost, most reliable, base load electricity supplies in the World, for most importantly for every second of every hour, for the 24hrs, of every day, 365 days a year.
Unfortunately for Australian electricity consumers, I believe that our Energy Ministers, Federal and State, along with the AEMO are playing a Renewable Energy Delusion Game. Which on their website the AEMO explains the game as being. “We're aiming to enable 100% renewable energy at any point in time Our goal is to co-design and co-engineer the NEM and the WEM to manage 100% instantaneous penetration of renewables at any moment on any day by 2025”.
My response: For the AEMO to aim to achieve 100% renewable energy at any point in time. Is A. An irresponsible aim to have. B. It would be of exactly NO BENEFIT to Australian electricity consumers and C. It comes with the extreme probability of a TOTAL COLLAPSE OF THE GRID.
A. This is a possible unexpected consequence of trying to achieve 100%. From 4/6/2024 4.50pm to 7.00am 5/6/2024 (14 hrs). For an uninterrupted period of 14 hours. Solar – Wind and Batteries NEVER PRODUCED MORE THAN 6% OF NATIONAL GRID PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS AND WAS EVEN DOWN TO 1%.
The evidence from the AEMO Dashboard. Eastern States 4th June 2024 4.50pm EST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 46% Brown Coal 14%, Gas 21%, Hydro 15% Diesel 1% Solar 0%, Wind 1%. Batteries, Solar and Wind, only producing 1% of the input to the Grid. It continued for 14 hours when the. Eastern States 5th June 2024 6.50am EST. Batteries 1%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 51% Brown Coal 17%, Gas 13%, Hydro 12% Diesel 1% Solar 0%, Wind 5%. At that time Batteries, Solar and Wind, were only producing 6% of the input to the Grid.
The importance of coal. At 11pm on the 4/6/2024 by State. Electricity was produced by: NSW 88% Black Coal, QLD 91% Black Coal, VIC 81% Brown Coal, SA 92% Gas, TAS 95% Hydro.
The spot price in SA at 6.20pm, peaked at $3,936 per MWh.
B. And if it is part of Net Zero by 2050, it will be counter productive, because Carbon Dioxide (Co2) is highly beneficial to plants and all living things. And secondly China, India and the USA are putting out so much Co2, that any reductions Australia makes is irrelevant on the World scene.
C. As I see it will. A. Make the supply of electricity very unstable, leading to load shedding and blackouts, B. Drive the price of electricity up to unaffordable levels. In the process, deindustrialising the country. C. Destroying, disfiguring, burning, the rural landscape and environment.

I would point out that Gerald makes a mistake in saying that batteries can support solar by providing electricity at night. This is double counting, the electricity generated by the Solar Panels and stored by the batteries, can be used at night when the solar cannot generate anything because of the lack of fuel. But either the electricity is used directly when generated by the Solar Panels or it is stored by the batteries for later use. IT CANNOT BE BOTH. Otherwise, the same generation is being counted twice.
The AEMO statement, also raises the question. Why aren’t these Energy Ministers and the AEMO Board, actually focused on reaching the AEMO’s stated role which is: “Our role is to manage the electricity and gas systems and markets across Australia, helping to ensure Australians have access to affordable, secure and reliable energy”.
Note: A. Of concern the role only states the AEMO will “help” not “guarantee” to ensure Australians have access to affordable, secure and reliable energy”.
B. Why has the AEMO, lost focus of what is their stated role is? And instead, are focused on reaching 100% renewable energy at any point in time. To me I believe the answer is, the AEMO has lost focus on who they should be serving (electricity consumers) and instead are flagging their extreme Green Wokeness.
THIS MAKES OUR DEMAND THAT THE INTENTION TO CLOSE ALL AUSTRALIAN COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY, CRITICALLY IMPORTANT
This includes Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045 and all other coal fired power stations.
And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest and to maintain the supply of base load electricity 24/7 that is essential to STOP the Grid from collapsing.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 17th December 2024 6.25am AEDST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 47% Brown Coal 17%, Gas 4%, Hydro 4% Diesel 0% Solar 1%, Wind 27%. 6.25am a time when Solar is just ending its 17 hour sleep, producing just 1%. Wind is all over the place averaging 27%, but ranging from only 7% in Qld, up to 94% in SA.
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 17/12/24 6.25am AEDST. Coal is producing in NSW 74% Wind 21%, Qld coal 80%, wind 7% Vic Brown coal 63%, wind 36%. SA gas 5%, Wind 94% and Tas 63% hydro, wind 37%.
