The Rainbow Venues in Digbeth, are offering their large outdoor space, The Arena, for FREE to Birmingham City Council in a bid to save the famous German Market ice rink, big wheel, and makers markets.
It was announced on 19th September that due to multi-million pound investment on Centenary Square, there was nowhere that the attractions could go.
The Rainbow Venues, one of the cities most iconic music venues however, have a plan. Director Lee McDonald said this morning: “It’s Christmas. It’s a time of coming together, spending money you don’t have, and enjoying precious time with friends and family. Let’s be honest an ice rink is the only place that people aren’t texting.”
The Arena is best known for hosting two of Birmingham’s biggest inner city music festivals, MADE and CHAPTER. But it’s a multi-purpose space that also played host to the finals of the British Street Food Awards.
Lee McDonald continued to say: “We all remember taking a date on that big wheel. It’s an impressive view from near the new library, but surprisingly the view from our side of the city is better. When you are amongst landmark buildings you cannot see the city landscape. The Rainbow Arena has possibly the best sight line in the city.”
The Rainbow Venues and it’s team are looking to enhance Birmingham’s Christmas festivities by bringing tourists across to the other side of the city, to experience the creative quarter in all it’s glory. They already work very closely alongside Digbeth Dining Club and Digbeth Arts Market, who could provide the street food and markets.
Lee McDonald and The Rainbow Venues are looking to invite the city council down to see the space, and hopefully save the German Market landmarks. If you can help please email: email@example.com.
