In January, our updated park petition for Smithfield, with over 10,000 names, was delivered to Birmingham City Council and we asked a question at the council meeting over how CityPark4Brum can be involved as plans are developed.

Councillor Ian Ward, the Leader of BCC responded as follows: "The council would welcome the opportunity to work with stakeholders, including those campaigning for CityPark4Brum as we take forward the delivery of this major scheme for the city of Birmingham”.

The link can be found here: http://civico.net/birmingham/democratic-services/4580 - start watching at 47 minutes until 51 minutes.

A summary of what our campaign has delivered so far:

1) A small green park for the site - agreed in 2016;

2) A public commitment from the council to work with us as the scheme is taken forward

With the 10,000 target reached, the petition will now close but can always be reopened should the need arise. We will be making sure that the council sticks to its commitment to engage with us and we will continue to make the case for an even greater focus on green space and a larger park for the site. Please continue to follow updates on our website: www.citypark4brum.com

Finally a huge thank you to all of you who have signed this petition. With it clear how much public support there has been, its legacy will not only be a new park for our city centre but hopefully also a much higher council priority for parks & green space in future developments.
