Dear Signatories of BASE (Biola Alumni Standing for Equality),

The BASE team wants to thank you for your support of this petition. This is no simple or trite matter. You have supported an initiative that takes some real courage to endorse given our current cultural climate.

To update you on our progress. The team (Dr. Jacob Daniel, Logan Zeppieri, Claudia Kalmikov, and Anthony Costello) just held a 1.5 hour Zoom meeting with executive members of Biola's administration and a Professor of Theology at Biola. Also, Dr. Corey Miller, president of Ratio Christi, joined in on our call as an external advisor to the BASE team.

This was a very productive meeting. After about an hour of discussion clarifying our position, and why we believe this matter is of the utmost urgency, we presented the Biola leadership with three concrete action items:

1) That Dr. Barry Corey and Biola publicly distance itself from the organization Black Lives Matter,

2) That Dr. Barry Corey and Biola begin a process of dissertation review in select, undergraduate departments, and of administrators.

3) That Dr. Barry Corey and Biola make a clear, public statement about Biola's stance on the doctrines of Critical Theory and Critical Race Theory, to include the dangers of it.

Also, an advisor to the President will be working over the weekend on a response to other points in our petition, actively engaging with our concerns.

We want you to know that progress is being made, and we are dedicated to continue to act as proxies for you, the signers of BASE. We will continue to keep you updated and are thankful for your continual support!

In Christ,
Anthony Costello
