Florida Ban on Single Use Shopping Bags

The Issue

WHY WE NEED TO CHANGE: Plastic bags are cheap, convenient, easy to store, and readily available at local stores.   But in Florida, our roads and beaches are becoming littered with them.  They can be seen blowing through parking lots, floating in waterways, and washed up in our dunes.  Not only are they an eyesore but these bags are also harming the environment and our marine animals. Single use plastic bags are easily mistaken for food by animals like sea turtles.  Other animals become entangled in the floating debris.  Several states have imposed fees per single-use plastic bags while others like Hawaii and California have completely banned their use.  Florida should be next.
