Mr. Hagen

Hello everyone, As I'm sure you all know, I was called down to the main office several times this morning. I was not in trouble or anything. As a matter of fact, Mr. Hagen and I discussed this petition and offered valuable insight about the situation. First, nobody likes these current policies. From talking to several teachers over the course of the day as well as Mr. Hagen, there is a pretty clear consensus that the current policies were very much to set the tone of the situation. They were also hashed out quickly as a way to slow down threats. THIS IS BY NO MEANS AN END-ALL-BE-ALL PLAN. Second, we discussed several of the proposed solutions. I was told by Mr. Hagen to not rush the situation as it could be divisive with the limited knowledge that we have, however I am allowed to mention that cameras, although denied in the past, are being highly considered by the school board. I know that it is not ideal. It might feel like an invasion of privacy. It might make people more fearful. However it will also relax the current rules. It will cost approximately $200 per camera (1 per set of bathrooms). Lastly, to address the idea of key-cards for bathrooms: Although it is a great idea, it is just not within our budget. It cost $8,800 to install the doors near the commons. We would have to spend that $8,800 PLUS the cost of scanners and key-cards for every student. It is just too much at the moment. However, this could be something that we could work on and refine and possibly push out at a later date. In closing, this will be a slow process. However I am doing my best to convey everyone's feelings to the administration in a non-partisan manner. I will be in contact with Mr. Hagen for a while. The more comments that you guys post, the more you share this petition out, and the more willing you all are to work on fixing this as opposed to simply complaining, the faster the process will move.
