Petition updateSave Central Park East 1 Elementary School!CPE1 Parents & Teachers Address the Chancellor at Public Meeting

Friends-- Last night, we delivered our petition to Chancellor Carmen Farina herself. At the city’s monthly Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) meeting, parents and teachers from Central Park East 1 (CPE1) held a press conference and spoke about the city’s shameful treatment of our community. Several media outlets attended, including the New York Times, Chalkbeat, WNYC, and Schoolbook. Inside the PEP, 15 speakers gave testimony to DOE officials. Each speaker shared aspects of our story and demanded that the DOE protect our school.
Thanks to you, over 60% of current CPE1 families and 2,100+ others have signed the petition calling for the removal of the principal, Ms. Monika Garg. But the city has not yet acted on our request. Maybe 2,100+ signatures isn’t enough. Maybe if officials saw more New York City signatories they would realize their inaction translates into votes.
Right now, we ask that you re-share our petition with everyone you know living in New York City. Let’s get the number of NYC zip codes up, see if that spurs things. (Other signers are, of course, welcome too!)
In the coming weeks, we will be escalating our insistence that the DOE respond to the very real, repeatedly communicated concerns of the vast majority of families at CPE1. We will be asking you to support us and hope that we can count on you to continue to raise your voice in defense of progressive education, our teachers and our children.
Check out our video of last night’s press conference and visit savecpe1.org/press for more. Thank you for your support.
