Hi, all. I'm pleased to report that as of this writing, we've gotten
6,045 signatures on the petition I started in memory of my brother
Jordan, "Thyroid Patients Need Better Treatment NOW." Thank you
all so much for your support!! It really does mean a lot--but, the
work is not done....
As some of you may remember, I sent off a copy of the petition
to the White House in August, along with (hopefully!) a good
cover letter, plus all the comments from those who left one,
when signing the petition. I've read it can take several months
to get any kind of response from the White House on something
like this, and that seems to be the case. I haven't heard anything
back, yet.
So, in the meantime, I'll continue trying to get more signatures
for the petition, and build more support for it in whatever ways
I can think of. If any of you can suggest more ways to do this,
feel free to let me know in the "Comments" section of this
update. And of course, if you know of anyone else who might
like to sign and share "Thyroid Patients Need Better Treatment
NOW," here's the link for it:

While I'm here, I want to recommend a new book on thyroid
that's coming out soon, and that I think is worth buying.
It's called, "Rethinking Hypothyroidism--Why Treatment
Must Change and What Patients Can Do." It's written by
Dr. Antonio Bianco, former head of the American Thyroid
Association. He's one of the few "big" doctors I know of
who actually realizes (and cares!) that some of us thyroid
patients don't do well with the way we're treated, today--
and he's actually trying to make progress towards improving
things. That's very impressive, to me!
An important project he's been working on is a time-released,
T-3 thyroid hormone drug, that would be by prescription and
could be a true breakthrough for many patients, like me. It'd
make this medicine easier to tolerate and reduce the serious
side-effects one can get from the T-3 drugs. It's made differently
than anything that's done, now, like at a compounding pharmacy.
They are binding the T-3 with zinc to somehow slow down the
drug's release, and they're calling it PZL (PolyZincLiothyronine).
It's currently in clinical trials and could be really useful to many,
if approved. Fascinating!! Here's how to get Dr. Bianco's book,
if interested....and I don't get profits from this; just want to share:
It's available on Amazon (in US) now for pre-order (in book form
or e-book) at https://www.amazon.com/Rethinking-Hypothyroidism-Treatment-Change-Patients/dp/0226823164/ref=sr_1_1?crid=BHRKQ16X6R2E&keywords=rethinking+hypothyroidism&qid=1666878157&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIwLjY0IiwicXNhIjoiMC41OSIsInFzcCI6IjAuNjUifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=Rethinking+Hypothyroidism%2Caps%2C331&sr=8-1
Not sure if the link will work, but you can try! Release date is Nov. 24, on
Amazon--paperback is about 22 dollars, which isn't bad. Can also get it
on the University of Chicago Press website, as an e-book, regular book,
and PDF--also on pre-order for November. Let's see if this link will work:

If not, type "Rethinking Hypothyroidism" into their searchbox. It should
come up. Book may be available from other book places, too.
Anyway, thank you for all your support on this petition. I know my
brother Jordan and our late mom are proud that we are trying to
change things and make it better for those who suffer with thyroid.
They suffered a lot, too, and I still do. And I know there's a lot of you
who signed that suffer as well or have family members that do.
It's enough. Let's do this!! Posting again my favorite picture of
Jordan and me, just because I like it. My very best to everyone--
from Jordan's sister, Starr D.
