You all having been supporting this campaign for more than a year now and the deadline for my campaign is 8th March, 2020 i.e. International Women’s Day. Over the past year and a half I have rigorously campaigned for Ola Cabs to commit to the cause, but sadly we haven’t heard from them yet.
As the deadline is less than a month away, I am thinking of my next set of strategies. After much thought I have decided to add Uber as a second Decision Maker. Ola and Uber are the two cab companies which have taken the country by storm. Uber in a recent report claims to have command over 50% of the market share in India. Hence a commitment from Uber too, will lead the change if it decides to commit to hiring more female cab drivers.
In 2014, in the aftermath of the rape case in a cab in Delhi, Uber had expressed a keenness to hire more women drivers which would make women passengers feel much safer.
In fact in 2015 Uber said its plans to work with UN Women, an organization dedicated to gender equality, towards a shared vision of “equality and women’s empowerment.” But there is no significant rise in the number of women drivers generally across India and specifically in Mumbai.
Hence, I consider Uber as a potential decisionmaker and would like to know your thoughts about the same.
The ultimate aim is fulfilment of the petition ask before the deadline. The ultimate goal is #Cabs4Her. This is the new hashtag of my campaign.
