I chanced upon an extremely relatable post and I would like to share it with all of you.

The post encapsulates all the emotions a women feels when she travels alone by a cab in the most apt way. It articulates how women always feel anxious when they travel alone and also how male drivers tend to make women feel uncomfortable by certain actions.

The last line of the post puts forth a hard-hitting line which speaks volumes. It says- "We know 'Not All Men', but how we know which ones?"

This one line tells the story of almost every other girl and woman who gets sweaty palms when she is travelling alone by a cab.

This is why we need this petition to achieve victory. A woman will definitely feel more comfortable if she is travelling in a cab driven by another woman. She can feel safe and relaxed and for a change not be glued to the google maps all along the ride.

I hence got in touch with Sanjana Singh, the author of this fantastic post and interviewed her to know her thoughts about our campaign.

Q. What was the motivation behind this post?
A. There was less of a motivation and more of frustration. I just realized that how aware and scared I am every time  I take a cab alone. Especially on early mornings or late nights. Men don't realise the privilege they have in routine things like these. Privilege of feeling safe. They don't even know that a fear like this exist.

Q. Have you ever felt uncomfortable or unsafe because of the driver in a radio cab?
A. I feel really lucky and relieved whenever I'm dropped safely to my home. Sometimes, the driver change the routes and stray away from the navigation, mostly it's because they know another route, but for someone who doesn't know the city, it's a bit scary.
I always try and sit at an angle where they can't see me in rearview mirror. It can get very uncomfortable when some of them can't stop staring.
They turn up the volume of the radio or sing along whenever a cheap song comes up.

Q. Have you ever been in a cab driven by a woman?
A. Nope. Never.

Q. If you had the option of choosing a woman cab driver especially for late night travel, would you opt for it?
A. I definitely would. Though, it's kind of sad that that's the only solution we can have for this. Safety shouldn't come with conditions.

Q. How would opting for a woman driver affect your travel experience?
A. For starters, I'd definitely be more at ease. I would be comfortable talking to her. Women drivers would be able to relate more with the concern of safety of other women.
