NYS Funds The Centennial $500K
Apr 1, 2016 — New York State Budget news for the NYS Women's Suffrage Centennial:
In the on-time budget adopted today, state appropriators set aside $500,000 for the work of our Commission. While that amount is only a portion of the already-modest sum of $2.9 million proposed for the work, it is important to note that it spares the Commission from becoming yet another unfunded initiative, and it is also just a start--the Council will continue to seek avenues to fund the Centennial of Women's Suffrage in New York State. Additionally, the budget includes a renewal of operating support for the New York Council for the Humanities at the $450,000 level, which allows us some flexibility in serving the field.
Please thank your legislators for their support when you get a moment by leaving a comment to this petition; and if you feel that the funding level ought to be higher still, feel free to say that this is "a good start." Our champions in the legislature will certainly agree: they, too, wish it were better funded!
