Dear County Executive Isiah Leggett,
We are Alison Lewin's 4th grade religious school class at Congregation Beth El of Montgomery County. Please read below and consider our petition to organize a "Bay Day" to focus volunteer efforts on cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay.
We want to help save the Bay. The Bay is really dirty, and is hurting animals and natural resources (which affects us). We pretty much live on the Bay. Its a source of water, food, and jobs. Unfortunately, pollution and sewage run into our Bay. Cleaning the Bay and preventing future pollution would save animals (our food source) as well as local jobs such as fishermen. Many people use the Bay as a natural resource, including us. Maryland depends on the Chesapeake Bay for life. "Help save the Bay, because the Bay makes today."
Because of all this pollution, we propose a "Bay Day". It is a day of service to pick up trash and litter scattered around our magnificent Bay. There are many pros and not many cons. For instance, we will protect the wildlife, have a cleaner community, and also have cleaner water. It might be a little expensive but we think it's worth the cost.
