Response letter from Dr. Hefner
Graduates IHS 1960+
Dec 4, 2014
Rep. Chip Huggins presented Dr. Hefner with the petition that was signed by you online and those that were signed on several hard-copies. Thanks for your support. Many thanks, also, to Chip for his part in the establishment of our request for a facility named in Mr. Allen's memory. Some have voiced a preference in the new auditorium at the IHS or the library at the IES but no specific facility was named in our petition. There is a policy that dictates that a person has to be deceased for three years before the dedication can be proposed. This policy was made because of all the requests that are put before the board. I do not know the reasoning for the waiting period unless it is to outlive some of the supporters or hope the rest will forget about it, but I trust that we will continue our support and get others to sign the petition through-out this wait.
Dr. Hefner got to know Mr. Allen well and agrees that "Unquestionably, he is worthy of having a facility named in his honor" and will be presented to the appropriate council in Sept 2017. If you know any board members or Dr. Hefner, you may want to question this wait with a possibility for a waiver or just a periodic reminder. I did receive emails from two board members voicing their support. Dr. Hefner will receive a response and a thank you for his support.
My email is suzannewell@bellsouth.net if you wish to contact me for a copy of his letter and/or the policy for naming facilities within the district. Also, I will be glad to send the petition to any emails you have or send a hard-copy for those without email addresses.
Thanks again for all your support,
