Petition updatePreserve Bermuda Recreational Land PetitionTHANK YOU! ANOTHER MILESTONE REACHED!!
Riddell's Bay Members Committee
Nov 13, 2016
THANK YOU.. We have reached over 300 signatures in SUPPORT of PRESERVING precious recreational land in Bermuda, and continue to grow our support base. Watching the rapid deterioration of the oldest golf club in Bermuda (1922) is a concern to anyone who has played Riddells Bay. While this is a complicated issue, we are receiving strong support from junior golfers, senior golfers, lady and men golfers, international business tourists from around the World. The potential precedent of closing a golf course and changing the zoning for residential and development threatens ALL golf courses. Golf Courses have historically been protected by Recreation zoning under the Bermuda Plan (2008). REMEMBER THE REASON BEHIND OUR PETITION: Bermuda Plan (2008) ”Chapter 18: Recreation" "The purpose of the Recreation zone is to conserve land for a variety of recreational activities. The areas designated under the Plan as Recreation include public and private playing fields, sports facilities and golf courses, and they are important components of the overall network of linked open spaces across the Island….The Plan gives priority to retaining these lands in their open state and to protecting significant natural features. Development in the Recreation zone shall be restricted to recreational forms of development associated with the principal recreational use of the land, and other forms of development which are associated with the open use of the land." Please keep the momentum going by spreading the word and asking people to SIGN this important petition! Bermuda doesn't need any more concrete structures, we need to PROTECT the rare, recreational space that we have remaining on our tiny island. Once it's gone, it's gone forever.
