PUBLIC MEETING - Thursday 16 June from 7pm @ Christ Church Cockfosters

On Thursday 16 June a Public Meeting will be held to discuss the future of the listed mansion and grounds at the heart of Trent Park – the World War Two intelligence gathering centre that played a critical role in Britain’s victory over Nazi Germany. DATE/TIME: Thursday 16 June - 7pm start WHERE: Christ Church Cockfosters, Chalk Lane, EN4 9JQ (5 minutes walk from Cockfosters tube station) The 50 acre Green Belt site at the heart of Trent Country Park was purchased by Berkeley Homes last September who intend to develop it for luxury housing. They have indicated they will apply for planning permission to Enfield Council later this year – this could therefore be the last chance to establish, in at least part of the mansion house and beyond, a permanent legacy for the public benefit. Please see the recent BBC article on the campaign here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35978418 At the meeting campaign founder Cllr Jason Charalambous will be outlining the progress made since he launched the campaign over a year ago, and together with the panel of speakers will establish the vision for a full-scale national museum and learning centre to celebrate the estate’s extraordinary history. Keynote speaker Mr Iain Standen, the Chief Executive of Bletchley Park, will draw on his experiences of running a world-class museum and explain why, like Bletchley, Trent Park should be be saved for the Nation. Historian and Trent Park specialist Dr Helen Fry will explain why the very recently uncovered history of Trent Park deserves to be recognised and promoted, and how a museum will continue the educational legacy of the site last used as a Middlesex University campus. World War Two veteran Mr Fritz Lustig, who was until recently sworn to secrecy under the Official Secret’s Act, will tell the story of his journey from a refugee fleeing persecution in Nazi Germany to British intelligence operative and ‘Secret Listener’ recording the conversations of captured German officers – collecting information that proved invaluable to the war effort.
