Open the parking lots at parks in the greater Seattle metro area

Open the parking lots at parks in the greater Seattle metro area
The Issue
We are allowed to go to parks in Seattle, Mercer Island and other cities in the area. The parking lots are however closed. This doesn't make a single person safer.
People simply park in the streets, in front of people's houses and park at similar distances from each other as they would in a parking lot. It's not safer in anyway so what is the reason to close the parks parking areas?
The suggestions seems to be we should only go to parks in our own area. Which is wonderful for some - no doubt to keep people away from their own private enclaves - but that's neither democratic nor constitutional. On the other hand they do now have cars parked all over their area anyway given that people are going to use the resources which they are allowed to anyway. We really don't want to send a message that if you cant afford a house very close to a park that you cannot use them. Its healthier to be outside than in many environments that do have parking lots open outside them - such as hospital emergency rooms and grocery shops to mention but a few.
My own experience is most of the parks are not overcrowded in any way - just all the streets around them are beginning to be - and that the city council's need to re-open the parking lots now.
