The Government of British Columbia, Canada, wants to destroy  Queens Bay, an environmentally highly sensitive area of Lake Kootenay. Together with SNC Lavalin, one of the most corrupt Construction and Engineering Company of the world, is planing to build a ferry terminal including a gigantic industrial parking lot and a sewage treatment plant right into the lake. 90,000 cubic meters of fill will be poured into Queens Bay, that’s the equivalence of 6,400 dump trucks. SNC Lavalin projected it will take 4 years to finish this undertaking. 4 years of air and water pollution contaminating Balfour’s drinking water.

The area is not suitable: It is a narrow rugged beach with rocks and boulders on land and under water. It is regularly pounded by storms and high swells. Spawning grounds for fish will be lost. Wildlife: 18 species will be lost, habitat and vegetation will be lost. These species are all red and blue listed. (Ministry of Environments, Land, and Parks)

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations previously recorded archaeological sites located within and near the proposed area. There are prehistoric burial sites and scattered artifacts. Neglecting the claims and title of 7 Native Nations the BC Government ordered the $ 200,000 study anyway.

Our existing ferry terminal in Balfour has worked since 1947, was rebuilt in 2000 and in 2012 extensively upgraded. A small business community at the ferry landing will be lost, so will be tourism and with it The Longest Free Ferry in the World.

SNC Lavalin is banned from World Bank financed projects because of corruption and fraud. Their study is flawed, with lots of assumptions and lies, facts are missing.
