An outline planning application has recently been submitted for the development of 137 hectares of high-grade agricultural land at Upper Swallick. and this beautiful and important rural landscape is now under threat.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Local Plan update highlights serious concerns: regarding that:
Growth is outpacing the infrastructure required to support the level of housing now required by the Government
The capacity of the borough’s water supply system is at its limit and unable to cope.
5 Big Reasons Why We Must Object
1. Water Supply: The aquifer beneath the site is already at capacity and additional supply would require a major new pipeline.
2. Sewage Crisis: 680 hours of sewage discharge has already entered the River Loddon this year.
3. Traffic Gridlock: The A339, Hackwood Roundabout, Cliddesden junction, Brighton Hill and Hatch Warren routes are already heavily congested.
4. Destructive landscape Impact and the loss of high-grade agricultural land – impacting Food security.
5. Historical rejection of this site so why is it now in the plan – our previous concerns are still valid and remain.
