The landlord of Douglaston Shopping Center is planning to close Movieworld Douglaston and change it into a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Macy’s, which already planned to close 200 of its stores, will be closing March 1st, 2017. It is unknown when Movieworld will be expected to close, but permits have been filed with the city. Movieworld would like to stay. This theater has been around since 1983 and is one of the last family friendly and most affordable theaters in New York City. We want to keep it running for our community. We do not need a Lowe’s home improvement store in its place, the extra traffic, trucks, and noise will disrupt the neighborhood.
