RHDV2 WILL SPREAD FASTER IN SPRING AND K5 WILL BE RELEASED

Reports of RHDV2 deaths are still coming in despite the fact that it is winter when RHDV virus is usually more dormant.... Latest news also just officially released is the death confirmed of several Hares to RHDV2 in Australia, confirming the fact that it does indeed affect and kill our Hare. Why is this significant? It is significant because Hare are genetically different to rabbits.... It is already established that RHDV2 is not 100 per cent species specific.... Why does this matter? It matters because virus mutate. At some point in time this virus may (or may already) affect other species. It must already be affecting predator animals and perhaps if not killing them , making them ill. What needs to happen now? We need government to provide valuable domestic rabbits with a vaccine to protect our rabbits. We also need the government to take steps to contain/eradicate the spread of RHDV2. It is not acceptable that nothing is being done to contain this virus. It has no approval to be used in Australia and although it was approved for research here, it is claimed it is unknown how it got here. Regardless of how it got here, it should not be here and if this was the Hendra Virus, the Swine Flu or Avian Flu etc efforts would be made to quarantine the virus. RHDV2 is a virus with unknown potential for future devastating affects on other species. In Spring , we will also be faced with the release of K5 which has been approved for use in Australia. Again this virus will have very little protection from our current Vaccine, despite claims that it will. It will not have enough efficacy to protect all vaccinated rabbits meaning in Spring, our rabbits will have two extra virus strains on top of the existing RHDv351 original strain, to contend with. Sadly many more will die this inhumane death before we are able to access new vaccines from overseas.
