Bare Minimum: Stop the Silence & Break the Blindness—We Deserve More Than What We’re Given
The Issue
The Philippines is known for its hardworking, loving, and caring people, but in reality, many Filipinos still struggle to live a comfortable and decent life. These struggles are caused by problems with decent jobs, access to education, community safety, and protection from natural disasters. But most of the time, they are caused because a lot of people choose to stay silent and be blinded by the things that the government gives as “compensation” or what they call “help.”
It is true that the government provides food, rice, canned goods, clothes, and other supplies to people affected by calamities. But the question is, when will it last? And are we going to keep living under just these temporary solutions? Because if you would ask me, those things won’t be enough to solve the problems people face in the long run.
Is it really too much to ask for better education so that Filipino students do not have to struggle just to get the education they deserve? Shouldn't our communities also be safer and have better, organized, and structured plans when disasters come? Shouldn't our rivers and waterways be kept clean instead of being left polluted and unsafe? Shouldn't families be able to live without constantly worrying about heavy rains flooding their homes and destroying their properties, especially their belongings?
If hard work should be rewarded and efforts should not be ignored, is it really too much to ask for Filipino workers to receive fair wages for the work they do every day?
Since the government collects taxes from the people, shouldn't we also expect and demand those funds to support better public services?
By signing this petition, I am not only raising awareness among many people, but I am also calling for real change and better services for Filipinos. I want every Filipino to have the freedom to live safely, peacefully, and with dignity. I want the government to be held accountable for its decisions, for how taxpayers' money is being handled, and for not giving people the transparency they deserve. I want better education, safer and better-maintained communities, cleaner waterways, reliable disaster preparedness and response plans, and reasonable wages.
We should not ignore the struggles of other Filipinos just because we are busy dealing with our own lives. We should pay attention to what is happening around us because these problems can affect all of us. We should always remember that even the smallest things could make a big difference. We should not settle for simply surviving when we can work toward a better life for everyone.
Yes, government assistance can help people get through difficult times, but Filipinos also need reliable government services and programs that address these problems instead of only helping after a disaster happens.
So let us speak up and call for the changes our communities need. If we continue to stay silent, many Filipinos will remain stuck with the same problems. We Filipinos deserve more than what we've been given. Now it's time to demand what we truly deserve.
We deserve more than survival. We deserve the opportunity to live, learn, work, and feel safe in a country we can truly call home. We may not change our beginning, but we can always start today to change our ending.
