Marine mammals, such as whales, dolphins, and orcas, are being injured and often killed by U.S. Naval sonar testing. It damages their ability to communicate with each other, navigate, and feed. There have been many instances where whales beach themselves after being exposed to deafening sonar blasts.

I first learned about this from a book by Josh Horwitz called “War of the Whales” while I was researching a topic for my sixth grade science fair.

I have always loved sea creatures and love going to aquariums. It breaks my heart and many others’ hearts too, seeing this unnecessary torture. The Navy should perform their sonar testing in areas where whales aren’t prevalent. 

I’m only one twelve-year-old kid, but I have a voice. And if we all put our voices together, maybe we can save these creatures’ lives! They deserve to be here as much as we do.
