At Seattle he helped keep people's cars running and looking nice. His cousin, Steve Robideau (RIP), told me this in the 1970s. My friend and lawyer, William M. Kunstler (1919-1995) also wrote that Leonard "...was one of the founders of the Milwaukee chapter of the American Indian Movement (A.I.M.). In 1972, he helped organize a caravan of Native people from Milwaukee to join in the Trail of Broken Treaties and present their demands for sovereignty and self-determination to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington DC. Leonard Peltier like many other traditional Native Americans, has long been the target of F.B.I. attacks. Government documents state that in the early 1970s F.B.I. counterintelligence program (cointelpro) began to select A.I.M. activists for criminal prosecution on the basis of their beliefs." WMK-1979. (More to come)
