Bank of England ignore petitioners & their own consultation respondents!
Aug 10, 2017 — Here is my latest Press Release on Bank Notes: please feel free to share with your local media or to add your comments and make into a press statement of your own...
Doug Maw, who started the petition to remove animal parts from bank notes, responds to Bank of England decision to continue using animal parts.
Doug said, “The Bank of England are supposed to represent all of the British public. Their decision to continue using animal parts in the manufacture of polymer notes shows this to be untrue. 140,000 people signed by petition via Change.org and 88% of respondents to the Bank’s own consultation wanted animal parts removing, a process the Bank acknowledge they can do. The largest economy in the world (the USA) don’t use animal parts in their money so why should we?
“The Bank continue to conflate this with the use of animal derived ingredients in other products in their statement. What they wantonly ignore is that NONE of those products are compulsory and there are vegan alternatives to every example they gave. By only having bank notes containing animal parts they are forcing vegans, vegetarians, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and others to handle products that directly conflict with their deeply held belief and practices.
“The Bank also blame costs of £15 million representing an unfair burden to the taxpayer. Yet this January they pumped £25 billion into firms and banks in order to keep down interest rates! The reason this is costing the taxpayer money is their inability to properly consult and produce ethical materials.
“My next step is a demonstration outside the Bank of England at noon on 14 September (the day the new £10 goes into circulation). I will be building this event to show that opposition continues.
“Following that I will be launching a legal challenge based on the ECHR. It is my firm belief that this decision is in direct breach of the Convention. In particular articles 9 & 14.
“The world is waking up to animal use and abuse. Veganism and Vegetarianism are on the rise, with massive numbers changing their lifestyle choices. Much of this is due to awareness of the horrors of animal agriculture, of which the animal parts used by the Bank are derived.
Doug concluded, “ I invite the Bank to reverse this decision, stop using animals as products, start listening to people who have to use their products and act with honour.”
